Tofu as an ingredient is super versatile, and there’s a bunch of creative ways to implement this incredible nutrient ingredient into your diet, including these crispy cheesy tofu bites that make for such an ideal snack.

With only a handful ingredients you can whip these tofu bites in about 15-20 minutes, with minimal effort too.

For this tofu recipe to get that ‘cheesy’ flavour we will be using nutritional yeast, which honestly should be a pantry staple for vegans by now.

Nutritional yeast has a strong savoury, cheesy flavour and can easily be added to so many recipes. What is also fantastic for vegans, nutritional yeast is also high in B vitamins, including thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), B6 and B12 - B vitamins play an important role in our body for cellular functions, breaking down carbohydrates and transporting nutrients in the body, as well as being important for overall brain health.

This crispy tofu bites recipe utilises an air fryer, but the process is pretty much identical if you only have an oven. All I’d recommend is to bake them for about 8 minutes, pull them out, toss them around a bit, and then back in the oven for a further 8ish minutes to replicate that crispy airfryer texture.

INGREDIENTS

  • 450g firm tofu, cubed

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 cup nutritional yeast

METHOD

  • In a large bowl add tofu, soy sauce, garlic powder and nutritional yeast. Mix until well combined

  • Add to an air fryer and cook for 15-18 mins at 200c
