Bluey Poppeas Backyard BBQ Flavour Review

Bluey Backyard BBQ Poppeas snack with rating

If you’ve got kids, chances are you’ve seen Bluey absolutely everywhere these days and, over the years, the popular kids show has even branched out into supermarkets with a variety of Bluey-themed food products, such as yogurts, drinks and even these brand new Bluey Poppeas.

These Bluey Poppeas Backyard BBQ Flavour snacks from Infuzions are clearly aimed at families looking for something a little bit healthier, but still fun enough that the kids actually want to eat them.

And let’s be honest, that balance can be pretty hard to find.

With more brands leaning into “better-for-you” snack options, I’m always curious: do they actually taste good, or are they just another healthy snack that gets left half-eaten in the lunchbox?

Let’s find out!

Bluey Poppeas

What Are Bluey Poppeas and Are They Actually Healthy?

These snacks are made from Australian yellow split peas and are air-popped rather than fried, which already puts them in a slightly different category compared to your standard chip options.

At just 48 calories per cup, they’re definitely positioned as a lighter snack option, especially for kids’ lunchboxes or after-school snacks.

Each box comes with 5 x 10g packets, which is actually a really practical portion size if you’re trying to manage snacks throughout the week.

Price-wise, they sit around $4 full price, but you’ll often find them closer to $3 on special, which makes them a bit more appealing for regular rotation.

Taste Test – Bluey Pop Peas BBQ Flavour

Flavour

The first thing that stood out with these Bluey Backyard BBQ Pop Peas was how familiar the flavour felt.

If I had to describe it, it’s very close to a BBQ-style Cheetos, which is honestly a big win when you’re trying to get kids on board with something slightly healthier.

It’s got that smoky, slightly sweet BBQ hit, without being too overpowering. It’s not overly salty either, which I actually didn’t mind for a snack like this.

For a product that’s clearly marketed as a healthier alternative, the flavour holds up surprisingly well and are completely kid-approved!

Texture

Texture-wise, these are light and crunchy, but not in a way that feels dry or chalky like some puffed snacks can be.

They’ve got a bit of that classic “melt-in-your-mouth” feel, similar to other air-popped snacks, which makes them really easy to eat. Maybe too easy!

Do Kids Actually Like Them?

This is probably the most important question for a lot of people.

The verdict in our house? These were a solid win.

They’ve got the familiar flavour, the fun branding, and the portion size works really well for lunchboxes. That combination alone makes them a pretty easy addition to the weekly shop. I found that with these being a bit of a unique snack option compared to traditional chips, the kids lapped these up for being something a bit different to the norm.

Value & Price

At $4 for 5 small packets, they’re not the cheapest snack option out there.

But when you factor in:

  • Lower calories

  • Air-popped (not fried)

  • Kid-friendly portions

…it starts to make a bit more sense, especially when looking for a healthier alternative to some other traditional lunchbox snack options.

Still, I’d personally be grabbing these when they’re on special around $3.

Final Thoughts – Are Bluey Pop Peas Worth It?

Infuzions is no stranger to offering vegan-friendly snack options, with products such as their air fries, chilli salsa corn poppers, prawn cracker flavours, veggie chips and even their salt & vinegar veggie straws on high-rotation here. I personally like that a lot of their products are light and actually full of flavour - them being a healthier option is just a bonus.

What I also like about this brand is that they clearly label whether their products are vegan-friendly on their website and packaging. It’s something that I’m a huge advocate for, and I wish more brands did.

If you’re looking for a healthier vegan snack for kids that actually tastes good, these are definitely worth trying.

They tick a lot of boxes in my opinion:

  • Familiar BBQ flavour

  • Kid-friendly portions

  • Lighter alternative to chips

They’re not going to replace your classic snack foods completely, but they’re a really solid option to mix into the rotation. The fact that they replicate cheetos is refreshing for vegans that have missed those products too.
