Springhill Farm Choc Coconut Slice Review

If you’ve ever grabbed a snack from a café, conference, or even a flight, there’s a good chance you’ve come across Springhill Farm.

The Ballarat-based company have built a strong reputation for better-for-you slices made with real ingredients, and their vegan range has quietly become one of the most reliable options in Australian supermarkets.

The Choc Coconut Slice, available at Coles, is the newest addition to be available at the supermarket and is one of those products that doesn’t necessarily scream for attention, but once you try it, it sticks.

What Makes This Vegan Slice Different?

Unlike a lot of packaged desserts, the Springhill Farm slices range leans heavily into using simple, wholefood and recognisable ingredients to make their products really pop with flavour and texture - you wouldn’t even realise these are more of a wholesome treat.

To create the delicious taste and texture, ingredients such as dates, cocoa powder and rice syrup are used and used well!

The Springhill Farm Choc Coconut Slice is also vegan and gluten-free. Which makes it a pretty versatile option for different dietary needs.

At $7.50 for 8 bite-sized pieces, it sits in that mid-range snack category.

While this product is a new addition to supermarkets, and has a new packaging, the Choc Coconut Slice isn’t a new product for the company - more of a ‘new’ marketing angle.

The Springhill Farm slices have been available in larger bulk, individually wrapped, packages for quite some time now at Officeworks.

You might be surprised to hear that Officeworks actually sells food, but they do, and a good portion of the Springhill Farm range. Their slice range has been available for a little while now at Officeworks, and businesses often grab snacks from here to help cater to people during conferences, hotel stays and more - so you may have seen these slices out and about before.

While these have been available for quite some time at Officeworks, I have never tried the Choc Coconut Slice. However, I have tried a lot of the Springhill Farm range, including their incredible lemon slice, so I had high hopes walking into this review.

Taste Test – Springhill Farm Choc Coconut Slice

Flavour

The flavour here is subtle, but in a good way.

I find with a lot of ‘coconut-flavour’ based products that the coconut often overpowers any other flavour. However, this isn’t the case with this slice. The chocolate and coconut combination is well-balanced, with neither one overpowering the other.

It’s not overly sweet or rich, which actually makes it really easy to keep going back for another piece.

Texture

Texture is where the Springhill Farm Choc Coconut Slice really stands out.

These slices are:

  • Soft

  • Slightly chewy

  • “Gooey” in the centre

It gives them that almost homemade feel, which is hard to get right in packaged snacks.

Portion Size

The bite-sized pieces work really well here. Making you feel satisfied with one slice without over-indulging. One slice is roughly 100 calories too.

They’re perfect for:

  • Lunchboxes

  • Afternoon snacks

  • Something small after dinner

Value & Price

At $7.50, they’re not the cheapest option. However, you are paying for:

  • Quality ingredients

  • Dietary inclusivity (vegan + gluten-free)

  • Convenience

Compared to buying similar snacks at a café, they actually stack up pretty well.

Final Thoughts – Is Springhill Farm Choc Coconut Slice Worth It?

I may be a little late to the party on this one, since they’ve been available for a little while now at Officeworks, but I’m glad I tried them. If you’re looking for a vegan slice at Coles made with real ingredients that actually tastes good, the Springhill Farm Choc Coconut Slice is a solid option.

It’s:

  • Not overly sweet

  • Easy to eat

  • Great texture

And it’s one of those snacks that just quietly becomes a regular in your shop.

The price may need some convincing from some people, but for a wholesome treat that isn’t sickly, I’m happy to purchase every-so-often.
