Cobs Crunchy Popcorn Bars Sweet & Salty Almond Review
Cobs are already well-known for their wide range of popcorn options in Australia, with plenty of their flavoured popcorn and microwave popcorn varieties being accidentally vegan. So when I spotted their new Cobs Crunchy Popcorn Bars, I was curious to see how a popcorn bar would actually stack up.
The new popcorn bars come in three varieties:
Sweet & Salty Almond (vegan)
Caramel & Peanut (vegan)
Choc (not vegan)
I tried the Cobs Crunchy Popcorn Bars Sweet & Salty Almond, which are available at all major supermarkets for $7.50 for a box of 5 bars.
Taste Test – Cobs Crunchy Popcorn Bars Sweet & Salty Almond
Going into this review I was a little hesitant, because popcorn bars could easily go wrong - crumbly, dry, or overly sweet. Here’s what stood out with this one from Cobs:
Flavour:
The sweet and salty balance is spot on. It’s lightly sweet without being overpowering, with a gentle salty hit that keeps it snackable rather than dessert-heavy.
Texture:
This was the biggest surprise. You’d expect a popcorn bar to fall apart, but it holds together incredibly well. The bar is light, but solid.
Add-ins:
Chunks of roasted almonds are scattered throughout, which really help break up the popcorn texture and add a satisfying crunch.
Calories:
Each bar comes in at under 100 calories, making it a lighter snack option compared to many traditional vegan snack bars.
Value & Price Breakdown
This is where things get a bit tricky, and probably hurts these Cobs Crunchy Popcorn Bars the most.
At $7.50 for 5 bars (about $1.50 per bar), it’s hard to justify as a regular buy for what is essentially a light snack. While the bar is a decent size and tastes good, the full price feels steep for what it is.
That said, when these drop to half price (around $3.75 per box), they become much better value at roughly 75 cents per bar - at that price point, they’re absolutely worth picking up in my opinion.

Final Thoughts
The Cobs Crunchy Popcorn Bars Sweet & Salty Almond are a solid new addition to the vegan snack space. The flavour is well balanced, the texture works, and the roasted almonds lift the bar nicely.
The main downside is the price at full retail, but on sale, these are a great buy. I’d also be keen to see how the Caramel & Peanut flavour compares, especially as another vegan-friendly option from Cobs.
